Tree of Knowledge is an exterior wall sculpture for the new Castro Valley Library, designed by Noll & Tam Architects. It depicts important works of literature through the use of iconic images. The grid that integrates these often archtypal symbols evokes a game board, an invitation for engagement and curiosity for viewers of all ages.
From the base of the grid grows a robust, far-reaching tree whose branches travel far afield, evoking the wonderful experience of "breaking out of the box" of who you are after having read a great work of literature.
