Celebrating wildlife, children and poetry, these five sculptures of Native Species represent five native wild animals that are familiar to locals. Poems that describe the humor, movement and habits of the animals were chosen through a competition by ten elementary school kids are carved into the panels on two sides of each sculpture. The sculptures create a strong sense of identity, continuity and creative energy for the park. This is an example of public art successfully infusing and enlivening a public space with the human touch, the human hand and a sense of warmth and inclusion. That kind of environment is a keystone to healthy and engaged community.
