Auto Row Portals are inspired by vintage blueprints of auto parts created during Auto Row's heyday as a burgeoning and vital part of Oakland's culture and economy. The gates adorn a new residential community, Broadstone Axis, previously occupied by an auto dealership.

Auto Row Portals serve to remind us, for decades to come, of this rich (and rapidly transforming) history.

This is an excellent example of successful public art: It celebrates and brings beauty and tangible value to the place where it resides. It is an example of art in public places, art in private development, placemaking and public art enriching, expanding and celebrating community.
