Emeryville, California

Client: Commissioned by a developer for Estrella Vista, an affordable housing community, in conjunction with the Emeryville Art in Public Places Program, City of Emeryville, California

The Polaris screens emulate Polaris, the sculpture that floats like a star in space suspended above the third floor courtyard of this elegant building designed by KTGY Architects. The design of the screens derives from the negative spaces of Polaris.

Polaris is the north star, or polestar, the guiding light for ancient navigators. It is famous for holding nearly still in our sky while the entire northern sky moves around it.
