Native Land spans the east and west sides of the East Second Street Bridge, a main thoroughfare running through this Indian community of Reno. Native Land serves as a place-making identifier for the neighborhood located in the city limits.
The content and design of the sculpture evolved from numerous discussions with the tribal members and Tribal Council. The narrative is comprised of references to and images of sacred animals, plants and ceremonial objects gleaned from those conversations.
The Reno-Sparks Indian colony is comprised of the Paiute, Shoshone and Washoe Great Basin tribes.
